At their regular meeting on March 21, 2022, and a special meeting on March 24, 2022, the City Council voted to appoint three new members to the City Council and cancel the June 7, 2022 General Municipal and Special elections.
The City Council had three available seats coming open in June: one 2-year term and two 4-year terms. Three individuals, Jim Wickham, Stephen Burke, and Max Perrey, were nominated for office and completed the necessary paperwork by the deadlines. In this instance, the California Elections Code allows the sitting City Council to appoint the nominees and cancel the election.
Jim Wickham (Councilmember-Elect)
Jim Wickham was elected in 2015 and served a 4-year term. He was elected again in 2019 to fill a vacated Council seat. He served as Vice Mayor in 2021-2022, and with the new appointment will serve a 2-year term to fill an additional vacated Council seat. Prior to this, Jim served on numerous community boards including the Mill Valley Emergency Preparedness Commission, Mill Valley Soccer Club as Board President, MV Little League, Tam High School Boosters as Board President, and the Board of the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival.
Stephen Burke (Councilmember-Elect)
Stephen Burke was appointed on September 1, 2021 to fill a Council vacancy until the City’s next election. He has been appointed to a 4-year term. Prior to his appointment Stephen served on Mill Valley’s Parks and Recreation Commission, as well as the 2021 Marin County Civil Grand Jury and as Mill Valley’s representative on the Transportation Authority of Marin Citizen Oversight Committee.
Max Perrey (Councilmember-Elect)
Max Perrey has been appointed to a 4-year term. Max serves as the Chair of the City’s Emergency Preparedness Commission, Co-Chair of Sustainable Mill Valley, and serves on the Oversight Committee of the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority.
The City Council transition with new Councilmembers taking their oath of office will occur at their June 21, 2022 Regular City Council meeting at City Hall.
